Charging clients
When will you be able to charge clients?
As with any other qualification, you will only be eligible to charge clients for specific services render once you have received certification as a doula.
What do doulas typically charge clients?
As per DOSA, DONA, and ICEA regulations, doulas are encouraged to charge their worth.
Meaning that doulas can charge what they feel they are worthwhile taking into consideration the following aspects:
- Training and qualifications
- Type and quantity services rendered
- Quality of service
- Hourly commitment
- Overhead expenses
Depending on what an individual doula offers - basic principles and the amount of time it takes to create documents and educational material, as well as including time spent with a client (physically or digitally), will contribute to your services fees.
These factors will determine the exact fees you will be able to charge clients.
In retrospect, doulas typically charge anything from R 1000 to R 6000 per client in South Africa.
